After a buffet breakfast, it is time to hit the road on your first adventure. Today, you will be taken on the famous Golden Circle route. This is the most popular day tour in Iceland for reasons which will become obvious. Your first stop is the national park of Þingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and where you can see the tectonic plates of North America and Europe being slowly pulled apart. Then it is time to stop for a delicious lunch in a local greenhouse.

From here, you will head to one of the most famous geothermal hot spots in Iceland – Geysir. Erupting every 5-8 minutes, Strokkur is a geyser that draws the crowds all year round. Geysers get their name from this very spot. Finally, you will visit Gullfoss. This stunning waterfall is possibly the most famous waterfall in Iceland. Then it is time to head back to the city to do as you please in the evening.

Two of Iceland’s most well-known waterfalls (as well as two of Iceland’s most beautiful) and the incredible black, volcanic beaches that stretch for miles.

You will visit Reynisfjara beach, where the Atlantic Ocean meets basalt pillars that stack in hexagonal shapes on the beach itself. You will also catch a glimpse of the glacier of Sólheimajökull and the volcano of Eyjafjallajökull.

things to do reykjavik

It is time to head home. However, depending on your flight time, you might be able to pay one last visit to the shops, grab a coffee, or take a final stroll. You might even be able to use this day to visit the Blue Lagoon right before you leave. Either way, whilst we are sure you will be sad to leave, you will be dreaming of returning.
